SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Highlighted by a balanced offensive attack, the University of San Francisco baseball team (2-1) held on to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson (1-2), 9-7, in the third game of the four-game series Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco jumped all over FDU in the game's early stages, taking the lead while scoring six runs throughout the first two innings. After plating the opening tally in the bottom half of the first inning on a Jackson Nystrom RBI single, the Dons scored five runs in the second to blow the game open.
- In the second inning, Logan Azem and Charles-Etienne Pelletier opened with back-to-back hits to put two runners in scoring position. Tyvon Moore followed and tacked on the Dons' second run with an RBI on a fielder's choice.
- With the bases loaded later in the inning, a Kody Watanabe hit by pitch and a fielder's choice off the bat of Logan Schweizer pushed the team's advantage to 4-0. Mattie Thomas concluded the inning with a two-RBI single through the right side of the infield, scoring Watanabe and Zack Ramppen.
- FDU responded and quickly tied the game at six, scoring three runs in the top half of the fourth and fifth innings.
- The Dons regained the momentum in the bottom of the fourth inning, adding two runs to take an 8-6 lead. Recording his second hit of the game, Azem tallied an RBI double high off the wall in right field, scoring Schweizer from second base. Matty Fung later worked a bases loaded two-out walk as Thomas scored the inning's second run.
- After the Knights cut the Dons' lead to just one in the sixth, the green and gold regained their two-run advantage in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Schweizer worked a five-pitch walk as Fung scored to give the Dons a 9-7 edge.
