Dons Conclude Homestand with Decisive Win over Seattle U

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (5-3) recorded a season-high 14 hits on the way to a decisive 13-1 victory over Seattle U (3-5) Monday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Kody Watanabe began the bottom half of the opening inning for San Francisco with a looping fly ball that dropped in for a leadoff double. Watanabe continued to third base during the play as Seattle U left fielder Sam Kane misplayed the throw back into the infield.
- Watanabe tallied the game's first run in the following at-bat, scoring on a Logan Schweizer RBI groundout to give the Dons a 1-0 edge.
- The Dons doubled their lead in the second when Michael Campagna recorded his first home run of the season, a towering solo shot over the left-center field wall to extend the lead to 2-0.
- Highlighted by another home run off the bat of Campagna, a two-run blast, the green and gold blew open the game in the third inning, scoring four runs to take a 6-0 advantage. AJ Guiliana and Zack Ramppen also contributed in the frame as Guiliana recorded an RBI triple while Ramppen connected on an RBI single to center field.
- Two more runs came across in the bottom of the fourth as the Dons continued to grow their lead. Charles-Etienne Pelletier kickstarted the rally with a one-out double to left field, followed by swiping third for a stolen base during the next at-bat. Watanabe plated Pelletier shortly after, recording an RBI single through the middle of the infield. Watanabe later scored the Dons' eighth run on a Guiliana RBI groundout.
- The Dons reached the double-digit mark in the fifth inning, totaling three more runs to take an 11-0 lead. Logan Leax and Campagna began the frame with a walk and a hit by pitch, and Pelletier followed with his second double to give the Dons a 10-0 edge. Schweizer added his second RBI, scoring Pelletier one batter later with a single to center field.
- With the Dons leading 12-0, the Redhawks scored their lone run in the seventh inning. After a hit by pitch and two walks, Royce Hale plated Cameron Dayton from third base on a deep sacrifice fly to center field.
- The Dons added one last run in the bottom half of the seventh when Logan Azem came across to score on a Blake Pitts RBI groundout to first base, solidifying the 13-1 win.
- Campagna was perfect at the plate, going three-for-three with three RBI and three runs scored. Campagna recorded his second-career multi-home run game, with long balls coming in the second and third innings.
- Guiliana, fresh off earning WCC Freshman of the Week, recorded two hits, including his first-career three-base knock. In four at-bats, Guiliana also added two RBI and scored one run.
- Schweizer, Watanabe, and Pelletier totaled two hits apiece, while Watanabe led the team with Campagna, scoring three runs.
- Gabriel Barrett shined on the mound in his first start of 2024, pitching four innings of shutout ball, allowing just one walk with two strikeouts.
- Cal Amborn added two innings of relief, allowing just one hit and one walk while tallying a team-high three strikeouts.
