Campagna Homers as Dons Fall to Gonzaga

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Despite a strong performance from the pitching staff, the University of San Francisco baseball team (17-17, 1-6 WCC) dropped a narrow 2-1 decision to Gonzaga (12-18, 8-2 WCC) Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

- After three scoreless innings, Gonzaga jumped ahead in the top of the fourth inning, going up 1-0 on a solo home from Vincent Temesvary.
- The Bulldogs doubled their advantage in the sixth as Josh Hankins recorded a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Tommy Eisenstat from third base.
- San Francisco cut the deficit in half in the final frame as Michael Campagna sent a towering blast over the left-field wall to get the Dons to within 2-1.
- Campagna produced the offense for the Dons during the contest, going two-for-four at the plate while posting his seventh home run of the season in the ninth inning.
- Four pitchers saw action throughout the afternoon, with Adam Shew earning the start and going 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on five hits and recording three strikeouts.
- Gabriel Barrett, Hunter Holzemer, and Andrew Hazell also saw action on the bump, combining seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
