SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball program and Head Coach
Molly Goodenbour have announced the full schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
"We are genuinely satisfied with our 2024-25 schedule this season," Goodenbour said. "We have our annual Chase Center contest featuring Boise State, and we have an opportunity to play two games on the East Coast at Columbia and Seton Hall. We are eager to begin the season as we have a nice balance of home and away contests."
San Francisco enters the new campaign after finishing 2023-24 in a tie for third place in the West Coast Conference standings with a 10-6 record. Following a slow start to the season in nonconference play, the Dons bounced back during WCC action, recording crucial victories over Portland, San Diego, Pacific, LMU, Pepperdine, and Saint Mary's to earn a place in the quarterfinals of the WCC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
Notable returners for the Dons include reigning WCC Newcomer of the Year
Freja Werth and All-WCC First Team selection
Debora dos Santos. Werth ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 9.9 points per game, while dos Santos averaged 15.3 points and 10.6 rebounds, the lone player in the league to average a double-double. Along with returning 12 players from last season, including four starters, the Dons welcome graduate transfer
Emma Trawally Porta (Detroit Mercy) and true freshman
Angeliki Ziaka (Athens, Greece) as newcomers to the program.
San Francisco's nonconference schedule features three home games, as the Dons host UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Nov. 9, Portland State on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and Arizona State on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. The green and gold will also compete at Chase Center for the fifth time in six years as the program takes on Boise State in a neutral-site contest on Thursday, Nov. 21.
Facing off against three teams that earned postseason berths a season ago, San Francisco's nonconference road slate is highlighted by matchups at Seton Hall on Monday, Dec. 2, Columbia on Wednesday, Dec. 4, and Northern Arizona on Saturday, Dec. 14.
League play begins on the Hilltop in an anticipated conference home opener on Thursday, Dec. 19, against perennial powerhouse Gonzaga, as San Francisco is slated to take on multiple high-end opponents throughout the season, including Oregon State, Washington State, Santa Clara, and Portland, the defending West Coast Conference Tournament champions.
With the addition of Washington State and Oregon State to the WCC, the green and gold will also take on the former Pac-12 Conference affiliates four times during the campaign. The Dons travel north to face off against the Beavers on Thursday, Jan. 9, in Corvallis before hosting the second matchup on Thursday, Jan. 23. Notably, the Dons take on the Cougars at home on Thursday, Jan. 16, followed by a road contest near the end of the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 20 in Pullman.
