Valdez's Quality Start Leads Dons Past River Hawks in Series Finale

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Adrian Valdez paced the University of San Francisco baseball team (8-7) on the mound to an 8-2 victory over UMass Lowell 8-2 in the series finale Monday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Eddison Esquivel came across to score the lone run of the frame on a Tyler Harries groundout for a 1-0 lead.
- The Dons then held the River Hawks scoreless before doubling their advantage, 2-0, in the following inning when Jayden Garrison scored on a fielding error from the catcher.
- UMass Lowell scored twice in the top of the sixth inning, leveling the game at two runs apiece.
- Responding in the bottom half of the frame, the green and gold plated five runs to jump ahead 7-2, highlighted by back-to-back RBI singles from Trevor Harmon and Zack Ramppen.
- The Dons added another run in the seventh, when Ramppen registered an RBI double, scoring Nick Walsh to increase the advantage to 8-2.
- Nick Bacura closed the game in the ninth, allowing two baserunners, to solidify the series split for the green and gold.
- Valdez registered the win in his longest outing of the season, pitching six solid innings, allowing two runs on three hits, and striking out two batters.
- Offensively, four players recorded multi-hit games, with Esquivel going two-for-four and scoring two runs. Garrison also recorded two hits and scored twice, while Ramppen added two hits and a team-high two RBI.
- Kai Yovanovich and Bacura pitched the final two innings, allowing just three baserunners and combining for four strikeouts.
- The Dons out-hit the River Hawks at a 9-5 clip and went five-for-16 (.313) with runners in scoring position.
San Francisco pitchers faced 33 UMass Lowell hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out six.
