MORAGA, Calif. – Eddison Esquivel paced with two home runs as the University of San Francisco baseball team (23-27, 14-11) defeated Saint Mary's (29-23, 14-11) 9-6 in the series opener Thursday evening at Louis Guisto Field.

- Esquivel put San Francisco on the board first in the opening frame with a two-out three-run home run over the right-center field wall for an early 3-0 advantage.
- After Saint Mary's added a run to trim its deficit to 3-1, TJ Rogers and Trevor Harmon registered back-to-back home runs to extend the lead to 7-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Rogers recorded a three-run blast to straight-away center, and Harmon followed with a solo shot down the left-field line.
- Esquivel plated the fifth run of the frame later on, scoring on a throwing error from the third baseman Ian Josephson to push the margin to 8-1.
- In the sixth, Esquivel recorded his second long ball of the contest, a line-drive solo home run to right field to give the Dons a 9-1 edge.
- Saint Mary's rallied in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four times to cut the green and gold's lead to 9-5. The Gaels plated a run in the final frame on a failed pick-off attempt by Nick Bacura.
- Esquivel led the team offensively, going two-for-four at the plate with a home run, four RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. His two home runs during the contest marked his first-career multi-homer game.
