Diamond Dons To Take on #11 Arizona This Weekend

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco Diamond Dons (4-5) will travel to Tucson, Arizona this week to take on the #11 Arizona Wildcats (8-2). The Wildcats won 11 consecutive games to win the College World Series last season and feature a prolific offense that is averaging 9.7 runs/game this season.
The pitching matchups for the weekend follow:
Friday (5 p.m.) – Abe Bobb (0-2, 10.80 ERA) vs. Konner Wade (1-0, 3.86 ERA)
Saturday (1 p.m.) – Alex Balog (1-0, 0.64 ERA) vs. James Farris (2-0, 2,93)
Sunday (11 a.m.) – Christian Cecilio (0-0, 11.57 ERA) vs. Stephen Manthei (1-0, 5.11)

- The Dons won 2-1 at San Jose State Tuesday, getting six innings of no-hit relief from the bullpen.
- Haden Hinkle has thrown three or more innings of shutout ball three times this season. Hinkle has gone 13.2 innings without giving up a run and picked up two wins in relief.
- Head Coach Nino Giarratano won his 400th game with the Dons February 23 at UC Santa Barbara, an 11-5 victory. Giarratano picked up win 399 earlier that morning in the Dons 4-1 win in Game 1 of the doubleheader.
- Zachary Turner leads the Dons with a .441 batting average, nine RBI, 15 hits and 18 total bases.
- Bob Cruikshank leads USF with a .531 slugging percentage and the West Coast Conference with six doubles.
- Junior Alex Balog threw seven shutout innings of one-run ball Saturday at UC Santa Barbara, giving up four hits and striking out four to earn his first win of the season.
- Four pitchers - Balog, Adam Cimber, Haden Hinkle and Bob Mott - have gone at least five innings with an ERA under 2.00.
- Cimber earned his second save of the season at San Jose State, the second time the senior has recorded a six-out save.
- Ryan Matranga has started eight games behind the plate. The freshman has handled 32 chances, committing one errors, for a pitching staff that has a 3.53 ERA.
- Turner, Matranga, Derek Atkinson, Mitchell Rowan, Steven Camberos, Harrison Bruce, and Josh Miller have all collected their first hit as Dons this season.
