SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association has released their 2021-22 Academic Top 25 Honor Rolls. It was another tremendous season for the Dons' program in the classroom and on the court as USF's women's basketball team was selected as a special mention with a combined team GPA of 3.526 for the year.
"I'm very proud of the effort by our women's basketball players on the court and in the classroom," head coach
Molly Goodenbour said. "They did a great job all year."
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPA's inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2021-22 season marks the 27th year in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
This year's release marks the first year in which all teams which qualified for the top 25 rankings with the minimum 3.0 GPA also were recognized for their academic accomplishments.
As a team, USF excelled throughout the academic calendar year with five student-athletes:
Cami Fulcher,
Jasmine Gayles,
Marianna Klavina,
Jessica McDowell-White and
Kia Vaalavirta posting 4.0 GPA's in either the fall or spring while competing full-time on the court.
Leading the way in the classroom this season were the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, who as a team posted a combined GPA of 3.837 for the number one overall ranking among the Top 25.
The Dons return to the court for the 2022-23 season in November seeking a third-straight postseason trip following a 17-16 season and a top three finish in the West Coast Conference.
