Biography

2011 SEASON: Became the Dons’ all-time appearance leader after totaling 99 career appearances… made 20 trips to the mound in 2011 to pitch 28.2 innings with two starts and two saves… longest outing of the season was 4.1 innings against Cal State Bakersfield, where he stuck out three (2/21)… struck out a season-high four batters in two innings at Lamar (3/3)… yielded just one hit with three strikeouts in two innings against Sacramento State (3/7)… threw two spotless innings against Long Beach State (3/12)… earned his first save of the season after pitching 3.1 shutout innings against Santa Clara (4/22)… struck out four in 2.2 innings against Loyola Marymount (5/1)… earned his second save after recording three strikeouts in one inning against Pepperdine (5/15).

2010 SEASON: Led the team with 28 appearances, pitching 36.1 innings… totaled 31 strikeouts, while posting a 1-2 record with one save and a 5.45 ERA… finished team-high eight games on the mound for the Dons… threw 1.2 hitless innings with two strikeouts (2/28)… pitched one hitless inning against San Jose State (3/2)… struck out two in a scoreless inning against Cal-State Bakersfield (3/9)… totaled three strikeouts in two scoreless innings against Cal-State Bakersfield (3/10)… threw 4.1 scoreless innings against San Diego State (3/14)… struck out a season-high six batters at UC Riverside in 4.2 innings (3/20)… pitched 2.2 scoreless innings scoreless innings against UC Santa Barbara (3/26)… tossed two scoreless innings against Stanford (3/29)… threw a scoreless inning against UC Davis (4/13)… kept New Mexico from getting a hit in two innings of work (4/20)… pitched a scoreless inning against Loyola Marymount (4/25)… threw a scoreless inning against Arizona State (4/28)… pitched a hitless inning against San Diego on (4/30) and (5/1).

2009 SEASON: Saw time in 26 games with two starts as a sophomore lefty specialist... finished the season 0-4, 8.00 ERA... tied for team lead in appearances... started first game at the University of Texas - San Antonio (2/21), tossing 2.2 innings and striking out four in the loss... second start was at UC Riverside (2/28), when he threw 2.0 innings and struck out one in the loss... struck out the side in a 1.0 inning appearance versus Oklahoma State (3/7) in the Palm Springs Tournament... in 1.0 inning, struck out all three batters versus Gonzaga (3/27)... struck out three in longest outing of the season (3.0 innings) versus Cal in the Dante Benedetti Classic (3/31) at AT&T Park.

2008 SEASON: Led the team with 25 appearances as a freshman... finished the season 4-1, 5.80 ERA and 30 strikeouts... first win came at UNLV (3/7) in a 1.0 inning relief outing... win two was a 4.0 inning, three strikeout performance versus Fresno State (3/18)... earned third win in his next appearance, a 3.0 inning four strikeout game against Fairleigh Dickinson (3/22)... win number four came at home against Stanford, a 3.1 inning two strikeout performance... struck out four in 1.2 innings versus Portland (4/25).

PREP CAREER: Played four years of baseball for Reno High School... had a 0.00 ERA in 2006 league play... was Nevada State Pitcher of the Year two years in a row... earned Reno High School MVP honors... two-time First Team All-State.

PERSONAL: Born in October of 1988 in Reno, NV... son of Chris and Meridith Luippold... nickname is G Looey... goal for the season is to be a go-to pitcher... chose USF for the great city and the great coaching staff... thinks the best part of being a student-athlete is being a part of something that is bigger than himself... likes the freedom of San Francisco... would like to be Roger Clemens for a day... the best advice he could give to youngsters is to love what you do for the right reasons... after graduation plans to go to Physical Therapy school... favorite sports hero is Muhammad Ali... favorite movie is For the Love of the Game... favorite book is Angels and Demons... favorite musical artist in Third Eye Blind... favorite food is Sushi... majoring in Exercise and Sports Science.
