2011 WEST COAST CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION
2011 SEASON: Took over the starting shortstop job after a mid-season injury to Adam Clear… went on to start 32 games and appear in 41… was named WCC Player of the Week on May 2… finished third on the team with a .318 batting average… first hit as a Don came at Cal State Bakersfield (2/21) where he went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch… claimed his first RBI against UC Davis (2/27) after going 2-for-3 with three RBI, a double, a triple and was hit by a pitch… finished 2-for-4 at Pacific (3/27)… turned in a three-hit game at Portland (4/16) with two runs scored, an RBI and a sacrifice hit… went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice hit against San Francisco State (4/26)… turned in a 3-for-4 day against Loyola Marymount (4/30) with an RBI, double and a walk… hit his first home run as a Don at San Diego (5/7) going 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk… went 2-for-3 against Pepperdine (5/13)… blasted his second home run against Pepperdine (5/15) to finish 2-for-3 with two runs scored… had a double and a 2-for-3 day against Cal State Bakersfield (5/24).
COLBY COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Hit .363 during his sophomore year with 39 RBI and 30 stolen bases… named second team all-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference as a sophomore.
PREP CAREER: Started playing for team Spain at the age of 12 and was member of the Under-21 national team when it won the 2008 European Championship… selected to participate in the MLB Academy in Europe during the summers of 2006 and 2007 with former major league players Barry Larkin and Rod Carew coaching… also played tennis, basketball and soccer in high school.
PERSONAL: Born in June of 1989 in Pamplona, Spain… parents are Ignacio Garcia and Maite Goni… chose USF because he believes that the school is the perfect fit for him in order to be successful in baseball and academics… believes that the best thing about being a student athlete is, “getting to play the sport we love everyday, which helps us to be more organized with school.”… the things he likes most about San Francisco are the baseball environment and that the lifestyle is pretty similar to his hometown in Spain… his advice for youngsters is if you are going to do something, no matter what it is, you should do it the right way… if he could be anyone for the day, he’d be his baseball role model Derek Jeter… favorite movie is The Rookie… major is sociology.
