Two-Year Starter Was All-West Coast Conference Performer as a Freshman
(San Francisco) – Former USF soccer standout Omar Elmasri is set to make his professional debut for the Monterrey Tigres development team Cachorros De La U.A.N.L. this week. The Tigres are next in action Saturday, September 11 when the Mexico Division I team takes on crosstown rival Monterrey. Elmasri signed a two-year deal with the Tigres and becomes the 13th Dons soccer player to sign a professional contract since 2004.
Elmasri was a two-year starter for the Dons and started 37 of 38 career matches during his career in the Green and Gold. As a freshman the Arcadia native earned All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention and All-Freshman Team accolades, helping the Dons win the 2008 WCC Championship.
"Although we are disappointed not to have Omar represent the Dons on and off the field this season, we support his decision to follow his dream of playing professional soccer," USF head coach Erik Visser said. "Omar has all the tools to be a successful player at the professional level and we wish him nothing but success in his soccer career (USFAthletics)."
Before making his collegiate debut at USF, Elmasri turned in a standout prep and club career at Arcadia High School before getting the call from the National Soccer Academy. Elmasri spent the 2007-2008 season competing for the Chivas USA U-18 squad.
