Boyle was a member of the legendary NCAA Championship team in 1956. In his one season for the Dons, Boyle appeared in 10 games in the 1955-1956 season for one of the greatest teams in college basketball history. Boyle was 24 and considered the "old man of the team." He had played on USF'S freshman team in 1950 before he was drafted. He honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.Â

After his service, the six-foot-five center, Boyle returned to USF as a walk-on during the championship run. "I had the best view in the house," he said of the 1955-1956 season.Â

Following his time on the Hilltop, the English major went on to become a teacher and coach at Marin Catholic before moving on to serve as a coach, teacher, and counselor at Sir Francis Drake High School.

"No nicer person than Vince, a true gentleman," said teammate Mike Preaseau. Â "He was an inspiration to all of his team mates, he was always the one to pick you up when you felt down. Though he didn't play much, a lot but his plays were pretty big as a team motivator. He was always the positive role model to keep 'your dobber up.' When our college days were over, it was Vince that kept everyone in touch, by emails, by phone calls, keeping us up with our other team mates and the University (USF Athletics). " He is now a retired high school teacher and coach, San Rafael, CA.
