The 1979 Dons rewrote USF scoring records with 139 goals for the season. In fact, the 139 goals scored in a single season is also an NCAA record that still stands to this day. No other team has even come within 20 goals of the 1979 Dons – the 1978 Notre Dame team has the second most goals scored in one season – with 116 scored. The 1979 Dons averaged 5.15 goals per contest and six times scored seven or more goals in a single game.
High scoring forward Bjorn Tronstad also put his name in the USF record book for most goals in a single season with 29, and most points in single season with 71. Â The 29 goals scored by Tronstad still ranks as the 15th best single season scoring total in the history of NCAA soccer and the 71 points is the 11th best single season mark.
