The Dons built an early lead when they broke a scoreless game in the bottom of the second. With one out Right Fielder Mike Mooney walked and advanced to third on shortstop Monico Corral's single to right field. Designated hitter Steve Scolini then walked to load the bases. Third baseman Ralph Gentile then hit a slow bouncing ball to third, where Madden retired Gentile at first while Mooney crossed the plate with the first run of the game. Eagleton started the outburst with a lead off single to left field, followed by another single to left by Mooney. However, Eagleton was thrown out at third on the play with Mooney taking second on the throw. Corral was then awarded first base on a catcher's interference call. Scolini then singled to right, scoring Mooney with Corral going to third on the play (TheFoghorn).
