At the beginning of the second half, the second string offense broke the game open with a five goal barrage. For a time it seemed that the reserves had learned to work together. Felklano began the deluge with a left footed shot from the right side of the field. Salvador Ochoa scored the Don's fourth goal on a 30 yard shot from the right corner. Before the visiting team could settle down from their previous setbacks, Shaw Dehghan and Larry Dineen smashed in two more 10 yard shots from the left and right sides of the field respectively. USF struck "pay-dirt" for the final time when Dehghan shoved in a rebounding shot from the foot of Leon Heitman.

The crowd sparked a counterattack by Chico and influenced a decision by the referees which resulted in the Wildcat's second goal. A Chico forward received a pass from his halfback and raced alone toward the Don goal. Speedy Larry Dineen caught up with him but was forced to foul him and give up another direct kick. The Chico State forward was able to receive the ball only because he was ten yards offside. The referee failed to note the latter infraction and allowed George Barry to score his second direct free kick of the night (TheFoghorn).
