Two weeks ago, basketball mentor Phil Vukicevich greeted 18 hopefuls as he opened drills for this year's squad. For the most part, this is a veteran squad, but only one of last year's starters, center Pete Cross, returns. Still, Vukicevich has the nucleus for a fine team. He will be especially strong at guard with "Sweet Richie" Ames, former S.F. Prep Player of the Year, senior Dion Kerhoulas, and soph Ron Santos, last year's frosh scoring leader. The forward position has been beefed up with the arrival of Craig Farley, a JC transfer from College of San Mateo. The other forward position will most likely be held by Rick Schaer, the dead-eye junior. Helping out up front will be Leroy Hogg, Mike Doherty, and George Kriste (TheFoghorn).
