The 1968-1969 frosh team includes: Pat Galos, Terry Senn, Johnny Burks, Dennis Dolan, John Hancock, Greg Greco. This year's freshman squad is new, not only in players, but in coaches. The yearlings have a whole new set of coaches to work for. Bob Gaillard, a former Don great, is now the head frosh mentor as well as Assistant varsity Coach. He has two familiar aides in Art Wilmore and Tom O'Neil, who both graduated from last year's varsity.
The second half began like the first until reserve Pat Galos hit 2 jumpers within a 19 second span to give USF a 44-38 bulge. This seemed to ignite the Frosh and they then powered to an 18 point advantage with 4 minutes left in the game. The final score read 36-72, with Ferrebouef leading all scorers with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Teammate Johnny Burks chipped in with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Terry Senn and Ron Centerwall got 11 and 10 points, respectively, and Pat Loushin collected 11 rebounds.
Friday's game against Stanford saw the yearlings start sluggishly, gain a 7 point half-time lead and then slowly widen their margin. Led by Johnny Burks' 15 points and 12 rebounds, the first half ended with USF on top, 38-31. Stanford had led only twice and each time by a single point. The second half started out as a slow-down game as the Papooses went into a tenacious zone and USF literally stalled them out of it. Pat Galos' jumper gave the Dons an 11 point lead with 14:47 left, but this was cut to 5 with 8 minutes left. Then with 5 different players scoring 13 points in 3 minutes, the Frosh stretched their margin to 13 points, 64-51. The rest of the game was anti-climactic, with the final score reading 74-63. Johnny Burks collected 26 points, and 20 rebounds. Pat Loushin got 17 points, while Terry Senn chipped in with 13 markers (TheFoghorn).
