On a positive note, the Dons did serve consistently, maybe not aggressively, but consistently. The volleyballers also passed well, too, which helps the offensive attack greatly. Pauline Cheung played well, hitting 10 of 18 hits (kills) and hitting well in general. However Coach Kennedy commented, "Pauline has played better."
"It's discouraging for the girls to keep losing." said Kennedy. "I'm disappointed in the outcome of the season, but there have been many positive things that make me optimistic about the future." Marty is referring to the strong development of all her players. Anyone who watched the team last year, can notice how much better they are playing now. Probably the most improved player on the squad is Kelly Fey. The team lost much of their defensive strength when she was injured. Pauline Cheung and Grace Yong can set the ball as well as anyone in the conference. Pauline really came into her own during the last half of the season and Grace is a multi-faceted player who can hit effectively also.
Despite this new offense, Kennedy plans to stress defense on this year's squad. This is because her team does not have the overall height that the other teams in the league possess. But Kennedy is quick to point out her team's quickness, which is well suited to effective defensive play. Marty will be depending on the play of returnees Pauline Cheung and Grace Yong to carry out these plans. Pauline, a gifted player, will be counted on for leadership on the floor, while Grace sets up her teammates for spikes (TheFoghorn).
