USF 11: Diablo Valley 0: Shelly Liebespeck throws a no-hitter in the USF softball squad's first game of the season, February 12th.
Oregon State shut out USF in the first game on one hit, while USF starter Shelley Liebespeck pitched superbly herself. Liebespeck gave up just two unearned runs, both coming in the fifth. OSU's lead-off hitter singled to right, and was awarded second base when she tripped over Sue Drengacz at first. The next batter walked, and with no outs, the Beavers had runners on first and second.
The wins were delivered by great pitching from Shelly Liebespeck and Terry Berg. Last Thursday, the Dons split a doubleheader against Chabot, losing the first game 2-0 despite a one-hitter pitched by Liebespeck. Both Chabot runs came in the top of the seventh after Liebespeck had pitched thirteen straight innings of no-hit ball, and were the result of two Don errors (TheFoghorn).
