In the second stanza, USF easily pulled away from the Spartans, leading at one time late in the game by twenty-three points. With the score 70-47, San Jose State capitalized on errors by the Don reserves to score thirteen straight points, but Charlie Dullea's lay-up closed out the scoring with USF on top 72-60. Wilmore, connecting on nine out of twelve shots from the floor, was the scoring leader for the night with twenty-three points, while Dennis Black contributed twenty-one and Don Snyder sixteen.
