There was a new headman and a new spirit in football that senior year. Pete Franceschi was backfield star of that team that came back after disastrous defeats to a tremendous success. Phil Kearney, Sam Johnstone, Gene Benedetti, Russ Kynoch, Tiger Smith, Tom Canepa, George Burtner, Bebe Mohr, Fred Haley, Charley White, all represented '42 on that Cravath-coached scoring machine. And behind that team was Mal McCarthy and his haba, and the unrelenting enthusiasm of a boisterous rooting section (TheDon).

A native of Petaluma, Russ Kynoch graduated in Economics in 1942 and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Reserve. He was a member of the Block Club and played four seasons of football.
