FENCING TEAM IN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Over the weekend of March 9-11 the USF fencing team competed along with twenty-three other schools in the Western Intercollegiate Fencing Championships. The Championships, held at Cal State Northridge, showcased teams from various colleges and universities west of the Rockies, including the USAF Academy, and also seventy-two fencers competing in individual events. 

USF competed in the sabre, foil and epee events. The foil teams took fourth place, barely missing third to Stanford University. The epee squad took sixth place and the sabre eighth place.

In the individual events, Leonel Bello took second place and an award in the foil competition. Bello was followed by his brother Sergio who took sixth place, and by Tim Philpott who came in eighth. Greg Bragg earned a sixth place finish in tbe individual epee and Gregory Shypertt took eighth place in the same event. Keith Vurdy, finished ninth in the individual sabre and Gregory Shypertt took eighth place in the same event. Keith Purdy, finished ninth in the individual sabre and was followed by Tom Philpott who finished tenth (USFFoghorn).
