Last Friday Buzzy Casazza, backed by a fourteen-hit attack paced by Bob Braghetta, nabbed his first win of the year by fanning nine Spartans. USF Field became the scene of eight extra-base blows, five coming off Don bats. Included in this barrage were doubles by Don Martini and Braghetta, triples by Leo LaRocca, Hal Payne, and Tony Basques, all of USF, and home runs by San Jose's second baseman Stan Beasley and center fielder Hal Winstead.

The Dons put men on first and second in the same sixth inning on singles by Charley Myers and Chuck McGuigan. Both advanced on a balk by COP hurler Hal Barnett. Captain Buzz Casazza then flied out to left to score Myers and break the shutout. The Don nine proceeded south to San Diego where they were home-runned to death twice in the three-game series.

The highlight of the week is the Don nine's clash with the California Bears at Seals Stadium a week from tomorrow, Sat. Mar 17. The teams already have met this season with the nod having gone to the Bears, 6-0, despite a pitching stint of six hitless innings by Buzz Casazza. The varsity baseball team prepares to carry on for the better after an eleven day layoff. With two games under their belt, "Dutch" Anderson's crew will tackle Parks AFB Wednesday the 14th and Santa Clara Sunday the 18th at home (TheFoghorn).
