Edward Buckley attended Galileo High School and graduated from University of San Francisco on an athletic scholarship to play football. He was a member of the South End Rowing Club (MarinIndJournal). He graduated in 1939 with a Degree in Liberal Arts and was a member of the Letters Society.

Fate was not kind to Ed Buckley, and cut short his season with an aggravating injury. Despite his insufficiency, in bulk, Ed played high-grade football. Against Stanford he went to town, and complimented his ability with a fine exhibition (TheFoghorn).
