The Rifle Team under the coaching of Sergeant First Class Edgar Flessner got off to a rough start this year after the loss of its top four men to graduation. Gary Menino, team captain and two-year veteran was backed-up by Greg Mantle, Larry "Louie" Martin, and Bob Long. John Blanton, although a newcomer, proved to be a valuable asset to the team, as he consistently scored in the top five in each meet. The team expanded its schedule by joining the San Francisco Rifle League and by attending the West Coast Meet in Reno (TheDon).
