Alice Solis paced San Francisco with 20 points. Solis, last week's WCC Player of the Week, hit on four of six attempts from three-point range upping her percentage to .600 in conference play. Melinda Harrison scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds before fouling out late in the game, and Diane Schnapp dished out eight assists in a losing effort. A night earlier, the Lady Dons pulled away from the Lady Waves of Pepperdine winning 80-65. It marked the first time the San Francisco women's team defeated Pepperdine during the Nepfel (Co-head coaches) tenure.
One way they can accomplish this is through experience. The Dons only lost one player to graduation last year. Returning from injuries this year are center, Melinda Harrison, who because of injuries last season only appeared in five games, as well as forward Karyn Bolger who suffered a stress fracture and missed eleven games. She is expected to miss three weeks of practice but is not scheduled to miss any games. The '88-'89 starters making their return will be guards Alice Solis and Joy Boyenga, forward-guard Ellen Gordon, and center Jody Bulmer. Reserve forward Robyn King, guard Diane Schnapp, and Valencia Hedgebeth, a center from the College of San Mateo will round out the Don squad (TheFoghorn).
