    Men's Basketball (1985-1988)
Last, but by no means least, USF looks to continue its tradition of a successful men's basketball program. Heading the list of newcomers is 6' 8" forward Mark McCathrion (Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland). Another talented freshman from the Bay Area is 5' 10" guard Robbie Grigsby (Lincoln High School). Junior point guard Rodney Tention (Grossmont JC) will quarterback the Dons, while 6' 2" shooting guard Bill Carr (Glendale JC) expects to challenge for a starting position.

The new (really rediscovered) leader of the attack was a near-flawless Robbie Grigsby, who provided the floor leadership Brovelli felt was lacking. Seeing the most extensive time (34 minutes each night) any point guard has all season, he had 16 assists and only four turnovers in he two games. "My job is to provide leadership, run the team, and when things get ragged, I settle them down," said Grigsby, sounding like a loyal company man. And who would be more conscious of getting Mark McCathrion the ball than his roommate? With Grigsby taking care of him, McCathrion tied his career high of 28 points against Portland, on 12 of 15 shooting from the floor. "That was the most complete game he's played since he's been here," said Brovelli of McCathrion. "He was solid at both ends of the floor (TheFoghorn)."
