Jimmy Giron was the son of Bob Giron, while serving in the United States Army for 22 years, was Intramural Sports Director at the Oakland Army Base, and coached the All-Army Volleyball team. In Europe, he coached the All-Army Boxing Team. He began at USF as the Equipment Manager in 1970, and worked there for more than 36 years. In the Summer of 1972, he was chosen to represent the United States as a basketball official for the All-Army team at the World Games in Europe. Giron’s name was synonymous with USF basketball, having worked with seven different coaches at the program prior to its suspension in 1982 for recruiting violations.
Jimmy Giron played basketball at USF, and served as an official for the Men's Pac-10 Basketball games. His brother, Bobby Jr. played basketball for the Dons.Â
