With two outs in the eighth, USF behind Bruce Zimmerman were ahead 3-1, but before the third out could be recorded the Bronco's had pulled ahead 4-3. They added another run off John Saunders in the ninth to make it 5-3. USF had taken the lead on Jon Cosmos's two run homer, he also drove home the fourth Don tally in a ninth inning rally. In that ninth inning USF had men on first and third with two outs when Coach Benedetti called for a delayed steal. The game ended when the runner was thrown out at the plate (TheFoghorn).
Saunders was also a sportswriter for the Foghorn in addition to playing baseball for the Dons. He graduated in 1973.
