The Dons subdued the firemen in season final, 2- 0 Basques twirls two-hitter for seventh win; LaRocca stars:
The USF Dons beat the San Francisco Firemen today, 2-0, to close their season. Tony Basques turned in a three alarmer, the Dons were too hot for the Hosemen to handle, and the Hilltoppers finished one of the finest baseball seasons in recent Don history with a 9-10-2 record.
Basques stops Broncos' rally in 4-2 win: Tony "Candy Man" Basques, USF's stop-gap twirler, took the Santa Clara Broncos by the tail last Saturday to the tune of 4-2. The win, for a brief moment, evened the Hilltoppers won-loss record at 1-1. The Dons lost their season lid-lifter against Cal Poly the day before, 5-2. Santa Clara, the Dons first opponent in the newly formed WCAC baseball league, proved easy-pickings for Dutch Anderson's baseballers and threatened the outcome of the fray only once with a belated rally in the ninth (TheFoghorn).
