Gene Franscioni, short as first-basemen go, more than makes up for this deficiency in his fleetness of foot and the elasticity of his legs. Gene's power at the plate has been a revelation and once on base he combines speed with cunning, the result being an excellent base-runner.

The halter was removed from "Pony" Franscioni Sunday, and with the eagerness of an unshackled colt, off he galloped onto the verdant pastures of Kezar, leaving his hoof- print firmly imbedded on the turf. Only this "Pony" was unique, in that he had a throwing arm. It was Franscioni to Le Roy—twelve yards. Franscioni to Peterson airmail— touchdown.

For Coaches "Spud" Lewis and George Malley, a happy prospect was somewhat clouded, when it was announced that halfbacks Gene Franscioni and Bob Johnston would not return to school this fall. Franscioni, who was chief assistant to Prentiss Wells, has entered upon an inglorious profession—undertaking — serving as a mortician's apprentice in the inanimate town of Soledad (TheFoghorn).
