    Men's Basketball (1950-1951)
Richard Patrick Boyle was a former resident of both Walnut Creek and Fort Bragg. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, and of being a retired Richmond Police officer for 30 years. The Richmond Police Department fondly called him "Pappy". He was a faithful attendee of St. John's Catholic Church in Healdsburg. He was the tallest altar boy at 6' 8". His Irish humor was renowned and his stories will never be forgotten by friends and family alike. He graduated from St. James High School in San Francisco, and played basketball at Community College and at USF. Pat loved to brag that he was replaced by Bill Russell at USF (SFChronicle).

Walt Mehl, Keith Walker, Pat Boyle, Phil Vukicevich, and Bill Guttormsen appear to be runners up at the five positions. Mehl is quick, has a great amount of poise, and can be a good scorer from the forward position. Very effective, though not flashy, is Walker, an unusually courageous forward who can be inserted into the lineup with little loss. Boyle is the fastest and most agile of the centers, and has the potential to become an extremely talented basketball player. Adequate guard replacement is Vukicevich, the most accurate mesher on the club to date. A cool ball player, he never becomes ruffled under fire. Guttormsen is the most intense athlete on the team. He's alert, a good floor leader, and a constant hustler (TheFoghorn).
