With the loss of their #1 player early in the season, each player on the women's tennis team was forced to compete at one position higher, resulting in a record of 0-16 to date. "Because everyone had to move up one skill position (from #2 singles to #1 etc.) I haven't put any pressure on the girls," said Head Coach John Drocco. "They work their butts off and I don't expect any more then what they are doing." USF's #1 and #2 players, seniors Nancy Bach and Rori Hewett, each retain a record of 0-16 in the singles department. "I don't like to see my top two players going out with 0-18 records (they have two matches remaining)," Drocco said.
The women's team which finished 11-17 overall won their seventh place match over Gonzaga 5-4. Sraddha Basynat and Rori Hewett were the only players to win their singles matches, but the Dons excelled in the doubles competition winning all three, two in straight sets and one in three. The team of Basynat-Hewett were the winning-est doubles team with a record of 15-11 overall as the Hilltop's number one team. In the first two days of competition, USF lost by scores of 8-1 over San Diego and Santa Clara. In singles competition over the year, Anne Navarro and Nancy Bach had 10 wins a piece, while Basynat had eight. Hewett and Jessica Kane each had seven wins a piece. "With the tools I had to work with the girls did good," Head Coach John Drocco said. "We've got everyone coming back and four new players coming in next year. This will make for great competition for the spots available (TheFoghorn)."
