At the guards, Mohr, Marchi, and Bersin, an aggregate of 700 pounds, are fighting for the first team berths. Mohr seems a definite starter not only on his practice performance, but also oh his showing in the spring session when Cravath tabbed him "greater than 'Blackjack Harry Smith." Smith was a Cravath-coached product and two- time All-American at U.S.C. Charlie Labno, Ken Blue, Juricich, Surina and Ben Petrini, the latter a made- over center, are in the contest for the second string guard spot (TheFoghorn).

Blue was born and raised in San Francisco. After attending USF, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Afterwards, he had a long career as a football coach at both the collegiate and professional levels. He retired in 1983 as an assistant coach at Fresno State. Coach Blue's passion for football continued and he scouted for several professional teams and was an Assistant Coach for three seasons at University of the Pacific in Stockton. He retired in 1990 and was a resident of Lodi for many years (SFChronicle).
