Raymond W. Gale played both basketball and baseball for the Dons. He was a member of the Academic Council, the Business Administration Club, and on the yearbook staff. He was a native of Mountain View and graduated with a Liberal Arts Degree in 1966.
Ray Gale, last year's NCAA Intercollegiate stolen base king, is up to his old tricks. Currently leading the league with 21 stolen bases, the Twin's second-sacker is also sporting a .404 batting average with 23 singles.
The Dons again took two games, this time from San Jose State, 14-0 and 6-2. Beside the overpowering strength of the Dons, two other firsts occurred. First, Ray Gale went 5-5 in the first game, and 2-2 the second game, a total of 7-7 in the double header. This is only two hits short of the NCAA record of 9-9. Secondly, this was the first time in three years that USF has beaten San Jose State on its home field.
Hilltop senior, Ray Gale, has signed a professional baseball contract with the Minnesota Twins of the American League. Ray will be signed as a second baseman to the Orlando Florida State Class A League. When asked about how he felt, Ray stated: "Naturally I am happy, but I feel sorry about leaving the Hilltop, especially with the fine ball club that will be here this Spring. We have played together for three years and this is definitely going to be the year that Coach McGlynn will field a real championship squad." All we can say, Ray, is best of luck and we will see you in the series some year (TheFoghorn).
