The Dons closed out their season with a win over Cal State Chico, but finished the season with three straight losses to Portland, St. Mary's, and Stanford. The women seemed to continue their great play as they blasted Chico St. 4-0. A scoring frenzy erupted as the Dons scored three goals in 84 seconds in the first half. Freshman Amy Montgomery struck quickly as she stole an outlet pass and beat the Wildcat keeper for a 1-0 lead. 30 seconds later, freshman Amy Souza pounced on a loose ball and lofted it over the goalie.
The loss broke USF's heart but did not kill them, as they bounced back to defeat Westmont College 3-0 as they played their best game of the season. Montgomery and Sargent returned to action in style as the USF defense only allowed one shot on goal and Montgomery scored one goal and had one assist after being moved from sweeper to forward. Montgomery assisted on Silva's second game-winning goal for a 1-0 lead after blasting a close shot, recovering the ball and crossing to Silva for the goal. Alyson Carr then added to the lead on an assist from Silva off a rebounded shot. That goal was the first of Carr's career. Soon after, Montgomery broke down the right side and rocketed a long shot into the upper left corner for the 3-0 win. "It was our best game of the season, we played well together and it was really good soccer," said Carr. "Amy [Montgomery] and Laurie's [Sargent] return helped pick up the offense and solidify the defense." USF finished off its 4-1 week with a 2-1 overtime win over San Francisco Stale. Karyn King tied the game at 1-1 after dribbling down the right side and booming a crossing shot into the net. In overtime, Silva struck once again to lead USF to a 2-1 victory. Silva has led the Dons to their past three victories with her three game-winning goals. One more game-winner gives Silva the USF record (TheFoghorn).
