Anthony Salvatore Ragusa was born to Mario and Lena (Sunseri) Ragusa in the Marina district of San Francisco, Marina District in 1930. He attended Galileo High School where he received a baseball scholarship to the University of San Francisco. He played both baseball and soccer at USF, which included being a member of the 1950 National Champion Soccer Team.

He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. He enjoyed taking his sons & neighborhood kids to Funston for batting practice, attending all their sporting events, and driving them out to Candlestick Park for Giants games. He taught and coached at Luther Burbank Junior High for 40 years. During summer breaks he worked at Silver Tree Camp (Purple Camp), where he also brought his sons. He was a Lifetime Member of the SF Italian Athletic Club, Salesian Boys' and Girls' Club Old Timer, Galileo Baseball Hall of Fame, Marina North Beach Hall of Fame, and San Francisco Old Timers Baseball Association.
In his retirement years he enjoyed playing tennis in his old stomping grounds at Funston and jogging at the Marina Greens.
