In the last minute Stanford's Art Harris, undoubtedly the game's outstanding player, sank a jumper to put the Indians ahead 47-45. With nineteen seconds left, however, Tom Brown sent the tilt into overtime by sinking two clutch charities. Leading scorers on the evening were Don Snyder and Tom Brown, both of whom tanked eighteen, while Dennis Black was top dog on the boards, hauling down twelve rebounds.

Tom Brown broke his arm and was lost to the squad for the rest of the year. This accident happened only a week after Coach Vukicevich, in reference to Brown, Dennis Black and Don Snyder, was quoted as saying, "Heaven help us if anything happens to them." Tom had been playing far above the expectations of many and had been averaging fourteen points a game in league play. His high point was the Providence game in which he garnered 22 points while holding their highly touted center to three in a winning effort (TheFoghorn).
