The Dons record fell to 2-5 with the loss, but pitched well assuming pitcher Travis Walters allowed only four hits and struck out seven batters in eight and three quarter innings of work. After a solo homer by Aaron Jones in the second inning and a RBI single by Heath Haberlin in the seventh, the game remained tied at 2-2 at the end of nine innings. Fresno State (4-5) opened up thc inning with back-to-back singles. Bulldog first baseman Brant Brown laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third, and the Dons then elected to intentionally walk FSU center fielder Todd Johnson. But Dilullo second pitch went over catcher Bryan McCaffrey's head and to thc backstop, thus allowing the winning run to score.

The Dons played and pitched extremely well against FSU in the first game of the series as Travis Walters (1-3, 7.09 ERA) gave up only four hits in his eight plus innings of work. "We pitched our best game of the year and Travis threw an outstanding game," Head Coach Ken Bowman said. "Pitching dictates how you do in a game and Travis pitched the way we know he can."

The pitching is also coming around for the Dons as Travis Walters, Chad Baldwin, John Brown, and Tim Dilullo all pitched well with their time on the mound during the series. Walters (4-5, 4.92 ERA) went six and one-thirds innings, striking out five while allowing just two runs and five hits on Friday. On Saturday John Brown (1-2, 4.73) recorded his first win in a USF uniform throwing five innings of shutout ball, while Chad Baldwin (3-8) hurled a complete game, shutting out LMU (10-24, 5-12) (TheFoghorn).
