Jack Cannon played basketball as a guard at USF from 1949-1953. He was a native of Omaha, Nebraska who attended Creighton Preparatory High School prior to USF.
An enthusiastic group of frosh hoopsters have arrived on the Hilltop to bolster the hopes of the Don varsity in the years to come. In recognition of his talents in prep circles practically every man holds the distinction of being an "all something." Bellarmine High of Tacoma has delivered two skyscrapers in the persons of Dick Jensen, 6-5, and Don Hermsen, 6-4. Big things are expected of Jack Cannon, a Nebraska boy, and Ted Richter from Long Island. Jim Wilson of Loyola, Keith Walker from Healdsburg and Tom Lampe of Tulare will keep things boiling in the battle for top berths.
At center are Ted Richter, 6'3", from New York; Jim Garrison, 6'S", and Dick Jensen, 6'6", from Tacoma. Guards Jack Cannon, 6'; Phil Viekicereich, 6'1"; Jim Olsen, 6'1"; Jim O'Brien, 6'1", and Joe Chulla, 5'4", from San Francisco. The majority of these boys come with records and clippings a mile long, which time and space does not give us a chance to print. But as can be seen, the team has height, and as was seen last Saturday night, plenty of speed sprinkled with good offensive and defensive play. Unfortunately also, time did not permit us to cover last night's game with the San Jose State Frosh, but after seeing the Frosh play, who can help from being optimistic (TheFoghorn)?
