Rene Trujillo graduated from USF with a Degree in Business, and then earned a Master's in 2004; she works as an Investment Professional in New York. She played soccer for the Dons for two seasons.
"Skeeler" is what her close friends call her, but otherwise this week's Reader of the Week simply goes by "Rene." Rene Trujillo, a senior Finance major, was "born to play soccer," as she proudly proclaims, but others disagree. Not because her athletic abilities aren't that great (they are excellent), it just that according to her roommate, she spends endless hours on the phone and because of that, she was born to gab. Rene agrees that about 90 percent of the calls that come into their apartment are for her, but she also said that she is trying to cut back. "I've been too busy to really talk for hours, like I used too," Rene said. "But occasionally I try for a marathon. I hate writing letters, I'd rather call people." There are two things that most people don't know about Rene: she has an identical twin sister, and our proud little Don was once a semi-proud Cal Bear. Rene went to UC Berkeley her first year of college, but decided to leave because she got an ulcer. "It was too stressful there," Rene said. "I'm into a stress-free environment. I got an ulcer." Playing soccer for a Division I team and financial aid brought Rene to this side of the Bay. "I was very lucky to get onto a Division I team," Rene said. "And the program (women's soccer) was relatively new when I got here. It has been a great opportunity. Soccer is in my blood. Il's not just a sport, but a lifestyle." Rene's twin sister, Lisa, attends UC Davis, where she is majoring in Exercise Physiology. Rene and Lisa both began playing soccer at about the age of six and used the fact that they looked alike to their benefit. "I would be defending a girl, and we would get into a fight and I'd foul her," Rene said. "If you get into a fight you get a yellow card, a warning, and next time you get a red card and get kicked out of the game. So my sister and I would go to the sidelines and switch jerseys so I could foul the girl again." According to Rene, both girls hated each others boyfriends, so they never switched dates, but they tried to change classes once during the eighth grade and got caught. "My sister is quiet and reserved," Rene said. "When she got to my class, she found out that I had about 100 demerits for being loud and always talking, and she was shocked. When my teacher saw my sister's reaction, she knew it wasn't me." Rene plans on graduating in May and her goal is to become a stock broker and eventually work for an investment banking firm (TheFoghorn).
