Mark Mackbee attended Tamalpais High in Mill Valley, CA and played soccer for the Dons from 1980 to 1983, and graduated in 1983.
In the second half, good effort by Guillermo Alvarez gave the junior from Watsonville his first goal of the season. Alvarez, starting the second stanza at left halfback, fired a shot that was knocked down by the opposing goalie. But Alvarez followed the shot and was right there to tip it in, once the keeper had lost control. USFs final two goals were contributed by Stan Musilek as he converted passes from Jo Bergsvand and freshman Mackbee.
The defense has been officially dubbed the "No-Goal-Patrol" because of its excellent 0.88 goals against average last year. Goalies Aram Kardzair of San Francisoand Andre Scheitzer of Redondo Beach will alternate from game to game, and try to improve on their combined total of 7 shutouts last season. All-American sweeper Erik Neilsen (Jr.) and fullbacks Stan Musilek (Sr), John Alexander (Jr.), Jan Elberse (Sr.), and Mark Mackbee (Jr.) are all returning, so the defense can only get better. Newcomers Gunar Kvarne and Martin Iverson, both from Sweden, join an already potent mid-field which includes Vidar Larsen (Sr.). Thierry Blanson (So.). Tevis Ignacio (Sr.), Per Haugvalstad (Jr.), Enrique Ingles (So.) and Singh Sandu (Sr.). Larsen was the team's second leading goal-getter last year with 9, and Haugvalstad was second on the assist list with 5, to go along with his 6 tallies (TheFoghorn).
