Gordon Kirby attended the class of 1951 St. Joseph’s High School in Alameda. He graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1955 with a Bachelor' in Business. He played for two seasons with the 1955 USF Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship Team. Behind Russell at the second string forward spot is 'Boomer' Kirby, the red-thatched crowd pleaser who filled in for Bill Russell last season. Kirby is continually improving and has looked good on board work in the practices. He saw limited action last year and gained some valuable experience which could help the Dons in spots this season.

Woolpert called off his first string horses with about 10 minutes to go in the second half. Gordon Kirby replaced Russell at center and almost immediately scored on a long jump shot for 73-37. KC Jones, only first stringer left in the game connected on a couple of long shots also, as did Tom Nelson and Warren Baxter (TheFoghorn).
