Bart Bowers played with the Dons from 1977 to 1981 and then moved to the professional team of the Alberta Dusters.

Well, the school year couldn't finish without the basketball team making more news at USF. As of last Friday, Head Coach Bob Gaillard and Assistant Dan Belluomini have signed three high school standouts to come to the Hilltop next fall. The Dons have signed Marvin Deloatch, Bart Bowers and John Reid to the 1977-1978 squad. Bowers is a husky 6'8", 225 pound center-forward from John F. Kennedy High School in Richmond. He averaged 16.8 points per game and 10 rebounds while leading his team to a playoff berth in the Alameda County Athletic League. Bowers, a 3.5 student, also shot 50 per cent from the floor. Besides being recruited by Oregon, Oregon State, California and Santa Clara, the 17-old Bowers was recruited bv USC and Arizona State to receive a football scholarship. He should be able to contribute very well to the Dons rebounding corps.

But mainly the presence of Bryant gives Belluomini plenty of flexibility underneath the basket. This will be especially true if Bart Bowers can measure up to what is expected from him. Bowers is a versatile athlete who can play either inside with one of the big men or outside at the quick forward position (TheFoghorn).
