    Football (1940-1943)

As is the case with all classes of the modern era, the roster of 43's athletes finds football stars predominating. It is here that the greatest number of Hilltop gladiators have participated - have covered themselves with glory and fame. The Roll Call of senior gridders is indeed an imposing one, for it embraces such names as Vic Ramus, Billy Russo, Ray Gennette, Bus McKnight, Bill Taylor John Cavalero, Harry Muns, Jim Tonge, Ben Petrini, Bill Moore, Clayton Coleman and Joe Connolly. Hilltoppers will not soon forget the deeds of Willie Taylor, John Sanchez, Doug Ashton, Buster McKnight, Don Lyons, Ray Gennette, Tex Juen, Neil Sheridan, Vic Ramus, Billy Russo, Harry Muns, Charley White, John Cavelero, Fred Shew, Hal Johnston, Eris Jamison, Eddy Cremen, Tommy Mulvihill, Tommy Canepa, Fred Rodack, Don Bower and those scintillating Freshmen-Martin Grbovaz, Bob Madel-lena, Hal Jensen and Fred Kleminock (TheDon).

TAYLOR OUTSTANDING: But it remained for Willie Taylor to prove himself worthy of recognition as one of the top flankmen on the Coast. The Scooter spent more time In the Loyola backfield than their second string halfbacks.

Six Dons who are preparing to receive their degrees this coming June received orders from the Columbia Midshipman's School to report there on June 21. The six potential ensigns are:: Coleman Clayton, Harrison Fox, John Deasey, Walter De Marais Richard Kirwin and Willie Taylor, recent winner of the coveted Pentathlon trophy last President's day. The Columbia Midshipman's School's gain is the University's loss. Tom Tasso, Editor of the "Don Patrol", a monthlly paper originated by four former University students who have been classified 4-F, has sent letters to parents of all those students who have been enrolled at the University within the last six or seven years. The plan will be to send copies of the "Don Patrol" to parents and friends of these alumni who, in turn, will forward them to the Dons now in the service and scattered all over the world (TheFoghorn).
