In the early days of the fall, a few friends got together and had an idea of playing rugby. After a few laughs and a couple of free-for-all-practices that looked like organized smear, the rugby team started to form. The team and coaches without experience played the Golden Gate Rugby Club. With the coming of second semester, came the maturity of the forward pack. The forward pack, led by Johan Neels, Ron Fletcher, grew into a vicious scruming and mauling machine. With the consistently and accuracy of the back field, the hard hitting of the forward pack and the directional passing ol Nader, the team was ready for the biggest game of its season - Nancy, the University of France. After the final whistle, Thc USF Dons stood proud with a 15-12 victory. It was an excellent season for the Dons, considering 70 percent of the team had no previous experience, and the help from lhe school was less than minimal. The idea of those few in the early days of thc fall had grown into a reality - a reality that will be with USF for many years to come (TheFoghorn).
Ron Fletcher graduated in Finance in 1989 and played rugby for the Dons.Â
