Proud of his San Francisco heritage, John Goodwin, Jr. grew up in Noe Valley in SF, attended St. Phillips School, Saint Ignatius High School Class of 1949, and the University of San Francisco. He graduated in 1953. He was part of the USF Soccer Team that was a co-National Champion in 1950.
He served as First Sergeant in the US Army at Fort Ord during the Korean War, where he received commendations for his service. After his military service in 1975, he moved the family to Napa and became active in the local community.
Jack enjoyed a long career in Finance and Real Estate, serving in many executive positions including CEO of City Savings and President of Gibraltar Savings until resigning in 1979. He was proud to have served on the Board of Trustees at USF from 1971 thru 1977 - the final 3 years as the first lay Chairman. For this effort he was honored as Alumnus of the Year in 1980. He owned his own Real Estate and Consulting Firm in SF, and later formed Jack Goodwin Real Estate Services in Napa. In 2021, he began working in winery tasting rooms in Sonoma (NapaValleyRegister).
