The pitching staff is numerous and experienced. Starters figure to be senior John Ramaciotti, juniors Ken Bowman, Dan Merolla, and Joe Toboni, and possibly freshman Jim Leoni. Senior John O'Shaughnessy and junior Dave Weidinger will see quite a bit of relief action. O'Shaughnessy, a left-hander, converted from the outfield to relief pitcher at the end of the season and compiled a 4.91 ERS. Weidinger has excellent control and should do will this year. Entrepreneur Joe Toboni is a fourth-generation native of San Francisco. After attending Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School and St. Ignatius High School, Mr. Toboni studied accounting at the University of San Francisco, where he earned a Bachelor's of Science in 1974. In 1983, he founded J. Toboni Construction, which later became J.T. Builders, and has been a premier builder in the area for nearly three decades. He launched Toboni Properties, specializing in rental property in San Francisco, in 1983 and continues to oversee the business.
In addition, Joe Toboni has owned Oakwild Ranch in the Russian River Valley region of Northern California since 1999. The carefully cultivated vineyards produce a remarkable Pinot Noir.
Joe Toboni is widely acknowledged for his support of the San Francisco community, providing educational resources and assistance for the disadvantaged as well as helping with fundraising for a variety of organizations. In his role as Chairman of the Capital Campaign at St. Brendan Parish from 1999 to 2000, Mr. Toboni helped to raise $3.5 million. He also served as Chairman of the St. Ignatius High School Auction in 2000 and 2001, overseeing a fundraising campaign that brought in $1 million. Joe Toboni has additionally served as President of the St. Ignatius Fathers Club and sat on the school's Board of Regents. In 2007, he donated the supplies and labor to construct a baseball facility for the high school. He has also given support to the Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor for St. Anne's Home in San Francisco. For his contributions to the community, Mr. Toboni earned induction into the Knights of Malta in 2009 (ToboniGroup).
