Freshman third baseman Jane Healy has committed eight errors in seventeen chances, a .529 fielding percentage. Kay Tickner, another freshman, has been tried at third, being pulled into the infield from her usual outfielder's position, and has committed 5 errors in ten chances, a .500 fielding percentage. Coach Rice explains, "We're still making mistakes defensively."
Last week, At The Hilltop, we referred to Cross Country as "never being much of a sport at USF." Upon contemplation, we feel we were very wrong. Cross Country is a very big sport on campus. With the rules and regulations that Athletic Departments have to face, it becomes necessary for a school to carry so many sports to maintain its Division I standings. Without cross country, USF would not be in Division I. Furthermore, the teams are made up of students who, without the benefit of scholarships or special treatment continue to work hard to uphold a sport that they enjoy. The following is a list of the members of the women's cross country team at USF: Ann Magner, Jo Ann Cohen, Pam Tracy, Maka Gunther, Kay Tickner, Eileen Brennan, Penny McLaughlin, June Brewer, Mary Walsh, and K.T. Argys (TheFoghorn).
