Joseph was a native of Colma, CA. He was a graduate of USF in Business, and a pitcher for the San Francisco Seals. He was an avid and accomplished golfer.

Others to catch the coach's observing eye were Gene Jacobs, right fielder; Tim Moriarty, tall, slender catcher, and Joe Sarto, a pitcher. The latter set the future Pirates down without a run and Gallagher, who relieved him, repeated the performance.

Cunningham is counting on several promising prospects to bolster the pitching staff of Thollander and Townsend. Wally Dawidczick, Jack Gallagher, Joe Sarto, Lou Pisani, and Andy Conway are the boys Bill is keeping his watchful eye on. When asked about this year's team, Cunningham replied, "We had a good year last season, but I feel that they will do much better than last year. They should win their share of ball games (TheFoghorn)."
